 Fall Fishing

Pickwick Lake Tennessee

Mother nature  is about to take her winter nap and I want to make that last trip before the snow sets in or the ice hits the lake that chases me off the water. I am one of those fair weather fishermen.

The cabin is nice and warm as I wake and I know it has to be cool outside because the windows are fogged up telling me the temp has to be colder outside than what it is in the cabin I like to keep the inside set about 70 degrees. A nice warm breakfast of eggs, bacon, biscuits, and gravy ought to warm the insides and of course coffee just fine for the morning and fill me up for the day. I will throw some extra bacon in some biscuits to snack on during the day if I get hungry. Pack them in the little cooler with water that I always carry I never leave the water and I have just lately started using crystal light  (pink lemonade) because I hate just plain water.

Out to the Boat and yes it is just like I thought cool is the word. I go with the thought put on a little extra clothing and you can shed and it gets warm, and if it does not at least you will be warm...wear to little and freeze all day and that make a horrible day of fishing and send you in early.

Launch the boat and already have a game plan on fishing the small island in Yellow Creek with a grape 7" worm Texas rig slow to see if I can get any takers. It is funny this is the first time I try and launch this Bass Cat by myself so this will be a new thing for me. What I do is tie a long rope to the nose and undo everything and tie the other end of the rope to the truck and slowly back the boat in the water until the boat floats off the tailor. Stop the truck and walk the boat to the pier and tie it up. Park the truck at the top of the hill and walk back down the hill to the boat and I am already wore out.

Now back to the boat, step in the boat, and before I do another thing, reach over and put on LIFE JACKET, don't ever forget this, and I live by this. Now sit down in drivers seat and fire up big motor and let it start warming up and turn on the depth finder to see what the temp the water is and remember this depth finder in the one that is fiber glass in the boat so the water temp might be a little off. The water temp shows to be 62 degrees...but I think it might be a little cooler, will wait until I drop the trolling motor that will give me a more accurate reading.

O.K. untie the boat and start to idling the boat out there is plenty of warm up time they have a big no wake zone to have the boat to warm up. I reach the spot to put the hammer down and off I go the boat jump out of the hole and is up on pad in not time and (Boy) did I back it back down real fast I just thought it was cold. Half speed will be just fine, the fish will just have to wait on me.
